TRANSPORTATION

The Knight Convention Center and Hyatt Regency Hotel are very centrally located in the urban center of Miami, easily accessible to local airports, and to other parts of the city by public transportation.  The following section gives recommendations on arriving at the meeting site.

Miami International Airport

After flight arrival and collecting your bags, follow the signs to the exit road outside of the arrival area.  If in a group, we recommend that you go to a taxi stand and ask for a taxi.  The cost of travel per taxi to the Hyatt Regency Hotel (downtown) will be $18-20 by meter.  Pay 15 % for a tip.  If you arrive singly, we recommend that you use the Super Shuttle Service.  Again, you will find Super Shuttle stands along the sidewalk outside of the arrival area.  Go to a stand and tell the attendant that you want to go to the Hyatt Regency Hotel (downtown) and a van will be dispatched.  The cost per passenger downtown is $12, with a customary 15% tip added.  For the return trip to the airport, you may book a cab from the hotel, or book a Super Shuttle van.  You should reserve space for the latter 24 hours prior to departure.

Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport

Many passengers may prefer traveling through this airport because it has cheaper fares from much of the United States (several discount carriers).  However, it is about 35 miles to the north of the convention center and more difficult and expensive for ground travel.  There is the public transportation of Tri-Rail and connection to Metrorail and the Government Center Station, several blocks from the Convention Center and Hotel.  This is easy and inexpensive during the day, but difficult late in the day.  Private taxis are expensive but there is a reasonable shuttle service:  Share-A-Ride for $15 per passenger to the hotel in downtown Miami.  After you have collected your bags, exit the terminal and look for stands outside marked "Airport Express".  You may call for shuttle service at those stands.  You can arrange return transport to the airport by calling Share-A-Ride on a local telephone number at 954-561-8888.

Automobile Travel

From the west or north of Miami travel south on I-95 into downtown Miami.  Leave the expressway at the 2nd Street exit.  Head west on 2nd Street and you will see the hotel and convention center two blocks on your right, at 400 SE 2nd Avenue.  There is limited parking at the hotel.  Valet parking for a single vehicle is $20.00 per night, and commercial parking is available at South Parking across the street for $12 per night (but $12 must be paid each time the vehicle enters the lot for an extended time each day).  We are arranging for inexpensive or free parking at the University of Miami, about 20 minutes away and accessible by Metrorail.
