Wolfsonian Reception and South Beach Evening, Monday Evening 6:30-8:30 PM
The Wolfsonian, 1001 Washington Avenue on Miami Beach.
We are organizing this reception as a stimulus for meeting participants to be exposed to Miami’s the famous art-deco district.  The reception at the FIU-Wolfsonian will allow visits to the galleries of this distinguished museum of the history of the design and propaganda arts during the Industrial era.  The permanent gallery illustrates the period of design that resulted in the art-deco architecture for which the South Beach is famous.  Wine and snacks at the reception will be complimentary.  After the reception we encourage participants to walk in this area and to choose a reasonably priced loScal restaurant representing the world’s cuisines.  We will provide lists and locations of recommended restaurants at the reception. Transportation to the reception will be up to the registrants.  A taxi, which can be shared by several participants, costs $18-20 to the Wolfsonian.  MetroBus runs two routes with frequent service and stops very close to the convention center and the Wolfsonian.  C bus (departing at 5:18, 5:38, 5:58, 6:18, 6:36, 7:09, 7:39, and returning at 8:45, 9:15, 9:45, 10:48, 11:48 and 12:24 AM) can be picked up at the bus stand on 1st Street just east of 2nd avenue, which runs north-south past the Hyatt Regency Entrance.  K bus (and the C bus too) can be picked up at the metro bus station between Flagler and Ist Street SW several blocks to the north and west of the convention center.  It can also be picked up on 1st Ave north, just past Flagler Street.  It departs at 5:10, 5:30, 5:50, 6:10, 6:30, 6:50, 7:10, 7:30, 7:50, and returns at 8:30, 9:00, 9:20, 10:10 and 11:00.  Both buses stop just after 9th Street and Washington Avenue, and a block walk north gets you to the Wolfsonian.  Both buses return to downtown Miami via Flagler Street, and you can exit the bus by SW 2nd Avenue and walk north to the hotel.  Buses take 20-30 minutes depending upon traffic.  We will arrange  transportation for those with special needs.  Contact the meeting organizers at the headquarters room for such arrangements.

Fairchild Tropical Garden Reception, Tuesday Evening 7:30-9:30 PM
Fairchild Tropical Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Road in Coral Gables
This full reception with buffet food equivalent to dinner and beverages provided by Bacardi will permit lots of socializing and opportunities for twilight strolls in this world-famous garden.  We particularly encourage visits to the Tropical Rainforest exhibit and the epiphyte exhibit in the Plant Conservatory.  Buses will leave from the entrance area of the Hyatt Regency from 7 PM and on, and will return to the Convention center from 9:00 on.

ATBC Annual Banquet, Wednesday Evening 6:00 PM until 12 midnight.
Miami Museum of Science, 3280 South Miami Avenue, Miami
Our annual banquet will begin with a reception and opportunities to visit Museum exhibits as well as walk in the historic Vizcaya hammock across Miami Avnue.  The museum is located on the grounds of the former Vizcaya Estate, and the Vizcaya is located across the street from the museum.  We will hold the lecture and ceremonies before the informal buffet dinner, with seating in the museum galleries.  After the dinner the floor will be cleared for dancing and the enjoyment of a live salsa band.  Registrants will use very convenient public transportation for traveling from the convention center to the Science museum.  Depart from the northwest entrance to the Convention center and walk via the glass-covered walkway to the Knight Center Metromover Station.  Transport is a quarter.  Take the escalator up to the trains, which run every couple of minutes.  Choose the northside track for the inner loop.  This takes you to the Government Center Metro Station.  Take the escalator up to the Metrorail Station (ticket is $1.25).  Enter the train platform and wait for a train heading south on the west side of the platform.  Exit the train at the second stop, Vizcaya Station, and walk to the science museum by taking the pedestrian overpass.  Trains run south every few minutes at the beginning of the banquet, but run north back to the convention center every half hour after 9:00 PM (9:11, 9:41, 10:11, 10:41, 11:21, 11:41 and the last train at 12:11).   We will arrange special transportation for those in need.  Contact the meeting organizers at the headquarters room for such arrangements.
